Introducing Project GOLD:
A Lifeline for Cancer Patients
Angels for Change proudly announces the launch of our groundbreaking initiative: Project GOLD (Generic Oncology Lifesaving Drugs), effective September 12, 2024. This transformative program is made possible through the collaborative efforts of our pioneering pilot partners: Cencora, McKesson, and Fresenius Kabi.
MAKING AN IMPACT
“These goals are not just words on a page; they are the immediate actions that program stakeholders will commit to protect cancer patients in the near term.”
- Laura Bray, Chief Change Maker, Angels for Change
What is Project GOLD?
Project GOLD represents a bold new approach to safeguarding cancer patients. As a critical Phase 1 pilot, our program is designed to provide immediate relief while laying the groundwork for more comprehensive, long-term solutions. Our short-term goal is ambitious yet vital: to ensure the continuous availability of essential cancer therapies that are at risk of shortage.
Why Project GOLD Matters?
Our focus is on Guardianship—a commitment to protecting the supply of lifesaving generic injectable oncology drugs. Through enhanced stakeholder collaboration and transparency, Project GOLD aims to establish buffer safety stock inventories. This proactive measure will help avert potential shortages and ensure that these crucial medications remain accessible to those in need.
“Patients and prescribers across the United States must have equal access to the medicines they need. This is a problem we cannot afford to ignore.”
Immediate Actions for Patient Safety
Our program will take decisive steps to protect cancer patients by establishing a national buffer stock. This buffer will be strategically positioned at our partners' facilities to enable swift and efficient distribution during patient-level emergencies.
Key Products in Focus
Project GOLD will initially address shortages of six highly vulnerable drugs:
1. Azacitidine
2. Dactinomycin
3. Decitabine
4. Docetaxel
5. Leucovorin
6. Levoleucovorin

“...Enduring solutions...will require multi-stakeholder efforts and rethinking of business practices throughout the health care system.”
- FDA, “Drug Shortages: Root Causes and Potential Solutions”
By prioritizing these critical medications, Project GOLD aims to mitigate the impact of drug shortages and ensure that cancer patients receive the treatments they need without delay.
Join us in our mission to protect and enhance the lives of cancer patients through Project GOLD. Together, we can make a difference.
